One medical student per SWS student was matched up based on the medical students expertise in the subject matter. The Simuel Whitfield Simmons Organization youth had an opportunity to be Doctor's for a Day with HIP HOP medical students at Robert Wood Johnson/UMDNJ Medical School. Students learned about health issues such as diseases, healthy eating, organs and much more. This allowed students to be in a medical school for the first time. They were able to interact with the medical students and ask them questions about the medical field. Some students seemed very interested in the field and expressed interest in becoming a nurse or doctor. THANK YOU HIP HOP (Susan Giordano/Robert Wood Johnson -UMDNJ Medical Students for teaching us about our health.

The SWS Organization supports Franklin High School Students with it's Prom Gown Program

The Simuel Whitfield Simmons Organization with the help of Merrill Lynch in Short Hills helped over 200 girls from Franklin High School in Somerset have access to free Prom Gowns. Sometimes parents do not have the extra money to pay for a prom gown for there child, so this program has helped a lot of parents not have to worry about where the money would come from say SWS Founder/CEO Natasha Rodgers. The girls who receive the gowns are so grateful and surprised that people would think of them and support them in this way. THANK YOU Merrill Lynch of Short Hills for your continued support.

Join Us for a Night of Fashion and Dance

Join us for our highly anticipated fundraising event and help us raise funds for the Alona C. Simmons Scholarship Fund. The fashion show features clothing from The Comfort Zone, Lipsy, Brooks Brothers, Banana Republic, and White House Black Market. The Dance portion will showcase routines performed by dancers from Rutger's Mason Gross School of the Arts, Art's High School Dance Ensemble, and GOD's Glory in Motion.

Casting Call March 12 - Calling all Models and Dancers

Greetings to all of the supporters of the Simuel Whitfield Simmons Organization! On behalf of SWS, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope that you all will experience great prosperity and success in 2011.

This year, I anticipate that SWS will blaze through the new year bringing much needed support to even more families in our community. To recognize these ambitions, SWS is pleased to launch our new website featuring a simple navigation and valuable information about what we do, who we serve, and how you can help.

Now it is even easier than ever to contribute to SWS by using our new online donation tool. The tool allows you to set up one time payments, or even schedule reoccurring contributions so you can maximize your giving. You can also request to be contacted for volunteer opportunities or even to schedule a pick-up of donated goods (food, clothing, furniture, etc.). As a reminder, SWS is a 501(c)(3) organization, so all contributions to us are tax deductible.

Providing Discounted Furniture for Students

SWS sent a group of volunteers, students hailing from various universities and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, to move furniture that was donated by The Home Depot to our organization, and will be sold at a grossly reduced price to students. The proceeds from these sales will be used to fund opportunities for the youth in the surronding community.

How We Help...

This is a sampling of some of the ways we provide for and meet the needs of our community:

Food Drive- Each week, at least three families in our community receive a week's supply of groceries and toiletries. These include items like hot and cold cereal, canned goods, bread, pasta, condiments, rice, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc. This helps us ensure that children in our community have the basic food needs met, and more times a hot meal before bed.

Clothing Drive- The clothing drive is an ongoing endeavor that enables us to help some families in the community with much needed clothing for their families; for school, casual wear or for an interview. We also have a monthly giveaway in the community that ranges from clothes to household items that needy members of the community can take what they need for free.

Back to School Drive- Held once a year, the back-to-school drive is designed to help school-aged-children between kindergarten and college. This drive enables us to equip them with the basics and more. We supply notebooks, pencils, pens, dictionaries, calculators, backpacks, highlighters, scissors, and more.

Baby Subbplies Drive- The baby drive enables us to help expectant and new mothers with items for their pregnancy, and their new bundle of joy. We assist with baby food, formuly, diapers, baby cereal, baby furniture, etc.

Furniture Distribution- Furniture is a big ticket item that many in the community cannot affort. Through our donor network we locate the furniture item needed, and match individuals or families with donors. This includes beds, couches and sofas, dining sets and dressers.

Prom Gown Getaway- Each year at prom time we select two graduating seniors whose gowns are custom made by a seamstress/designer for free. These lucky students also have a chance to input ideas into the design process. This helps to relieve parents of some of the high costs associated at prom.

Thanksgiving Baskets- These baskets provide some families with more access to food during the holiday season of thanksgiving. We supply baskets that would allow them to create complete holiday meals.

Christmas Drive- In the season of giving and sharing, less fortunate children and families in our community receive new gifts and toys from our donors. These children may never get a gift otherwise. At this time, we also create an opportunity for children in our donor families to volunteer in the distribution of gifts.
